💡

The problem this solves — and who it's actually for

Most golfers who want a home simulator also use that space for something else — parking a car, hosting family dinners, or just keeping their garage functional. A permanent freestanding enclosure takes the space full-time. The retractable system takes zero floor space when stored. You pull it down to practice, push it back up when you're done, and the room returns to whatever it was before.

⚖️
Retractable Screen vs Gungho Enclosure Kit — which is right for you? The Enclosure Kit ($2,199–$4,129) is a freestanding frame with full side and top containment — permanently occupies its footprint but provides the most complete ball containment. The Retractable Screen ($2,899–$5,387+) is ceiling-mounted with zero floor footprint — the right choice when you need the room back between sessions. The tradeoff is that side containment needs to be handled separately (by the room walls or optional protection packages). If your simulator space is dedicated and permanent, the Enclosure Kit is typically the better value. If the space needs to be multi-use, the retractable is the only practical option.

Choose Your Protection Level

The Three Protection Packages Explained

This is the most important variant decision on this product — and the one most buyers don't fully understand until after purchase. The protection packages add side and ceiling containment to handle shots that miss the screen. Here's exactly what each level includes and who needs it.

No Protection
From $2,899
  • Retractable impact screen system
  • Ceiling mount hardware
  • No side netting
  • No ceiling coverage
Only if walls are very close to screen
⭐ Recommended Protection
From $4,331
  • Retractable impact screen system
  • Ceiling mount hardware
  • Side containment netting
  • Catches most errant shots
Right for most setups
Full Studio Protection
From $4,603
  • Retractable impact screen system
  • Ceiling mount hardware
  • Side containment netting
  • Ceiling coverage / top netting
  • Complete room protection
For open rooms and garages
Our honest recommendation: Unless your screen will be installed very close to both sidewalls (less than 2 ft gap on each side), choose at minimum the Recommended Protection package. A golf ball hitting an unprotected sidewall at 100+ mph causes real damage. The No Protection option is only appropriate in rooms where the walls themselves provide containment on each side. For most garages and multi-use spaces, Full Studio Protection is the right call.

Choosing Your Configuration

Ceiling Height & Screen Width Guide

Two independent dimensions to choose. Ceiling height is your room's physical constraint. Screen width is your preference within what your room width allows.

Ceiling Height — choose your room's actual height
8 ft
Minimum height option. Irons and mid-irons. Driver swings marginal for most players.
12 ft
Generous clearance. Tall players, steep swing planes, overhead launch monitor mounting.
14 ft
Commercial-grade clearance. Dedicated studio rooms and high-ceiling garages.
Screen Width — choose based on your room width
Screen Width Min. Room Width Experience Price Starts
8 ft 11–12 ft Functional. Tight for immersive projection. $2,899
10 ft 13–14 ft Good. Most residential single-bay garages. $3,019
12 ft ⭐ 15–16 ft Recommended. Immersive, most 2-car garages. $3,139
14 ft 17–18 ft Wide-screen. Large 2-car garages and open rooms. $3,309
16 ft 19–20 ft Premium immersive. Dedicated studio spaces. $3,429
The 2.5 ft rule: Subtract 2.5 ft from each side of your room width to find the maximum screen width that fits with comfortable swing clearance. A 16 ft wide room comfortably fits up to an 11 ft screen. Not sure? Use our room configurator for a specific recommendation.

Why the Retractable System

The Screen That Disappears When You Need the Room Back

  • 🔄

Ceiling-mounted — zero floor footprint when stored

The entire system mounts to the ceiling. When retracted, the screen rolls up and disappears — the floor below is completely clear. No frame to disassemble, no netting to store, no equipment to move around. Your garage can park two cars, your basement can host a family dinner, your spare room can function normally — and in 30 seconds you can pull the screen down and practice. This is the specific problem that no freestanding enclosure kit solves.

  • Deploys and retracts in seconds — not a 20-minute setup process

The practical test for any "retractable" system is whether you'll actually use it regularly. A system that takes 10 minutes to deploy and 10 minutes to store becomes a permanent installation by default — you stop retracting it because it's too inconvenient. The Gungho retractable deploys and retracts in seconds. That's the difference between a system you use daily and one you set up on weekends only.

  • 🖼

Premium woven impact screen — same quality as the permanent kit

The retractable mechanism doesn't compromise the screen material. The same premium woven impact screen used in the built-in and enclosure systems is what deploys from the ceiling — it handles real ball speeds and provides a high-quality projection surface. The retractable housing protects the screen when stored, which typically extends screen lifespan compared to a screen that's exposed to the garage environment full-time.

  • 🏗️

Clean ceiling installation — looks intentional, not improvised

The Gungho retractable housing mounts flush to the ceiling with a clean, finished profile. When the screen is stored, the system reads as an architectural element — not as a rolled-up piece of fabric stuffed against the ceiling. For rooms that need to function as living spaces when the screen is up, this matters. The installation looks deliberate and finished from the moment you walk into the room.

Is This Right for You?

Built for These Setups

The retractable system is the right call for a specific buyer. Here's who benefits most:

🚗

Shared garage spaces

You need to park the car, but you want to practice too. The retractable gives you both — practice with the screen down, park with it up.

🍽️

Multi-use rooms

The basement hosts holiday dinners. The spare room is also the guest room. A freestanding enclosure doesn't work. This does.

🏠

Rental properties

You want to take the setup with you if you move. Ceiling mount points are easier to fill and repair than a permanent enclosure installation.

🎯

Serious daily players

You'll practice every day but want the room back. The 30-second deploy/retract makes daily practice realistic without the room being permanently committed.

Not the right fit if: Your simulator space is a fully dedicated permanent room — the Gungho Enclosure Kit or Built-In Screen Kit gives you better value for a permanent installation. Or if your budget is the primary constraint — the retractable system starts $700 higher than the equivalent permanent enclosure kit because of the retractable mechanism.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The deploy and retract process takes seconds — comparable to pulling down a projector screen or window shade. This is the critical practical test for any retractable system. If deployment takes 5–10 minutes, you stop doing it. The Gungho retractable is designed for daily one-person operation — you'll actually retract it when you're done rather than leaving it permanently deployed.
Only choose No Protection if your room walls are within 2 ft of each side of the screen — meaning the walls themselves catch errant shots. In a standard garage or open room where the screen is much narrower than the room, any missed shot travels sideways at full ball speed. A hard shank into an unprotected garage wall, car, or window causes real damage. The Recommended Protection package adds side containment and is the right choice for most setups. Full Studio Protection adds ceiling coverage for shots that clear the screen upward — worth it in any open room without low ceiling obstruction above the screen.
The retractable housing mounts to the ceiling joists with the included hardware. You'll need to locate joists (use a stud finder) for secure mounting — drywall anchors alone are not sufficient for the load of a deployed screen under ball impact. The housing mounts flush to the ceiling and the screen drops from it when deployed. Most two-person installations are complete in 2–3 hours including locating joists, mounting the housing, and tensioning the screen.
Choose the option that matches your actual ceiling height — not your desired height. The ceiling height variant determines how the system is dimensioned for mounting and deployment. Measure your ceiling from the floor to the lowest fixed obstruction at the hitting position (including any overhead tracks, beams, or HVAC). That is your usable ceiling height. If your measurement is between two options, choose the lower one for safe fit. The 10 ft option is the most popular because it's the standard for full driver swing clearance in most home builds.
Yes — the screen itself is compatible with all launch monitors and projectors. The projector consideration is that a ceiling-mounted retractable system works best with a short-throw projector also ceiling-mounted — the projector can stay in position whether the screen is deployed or retracted. Confirm the projector mount position before installation so the projector throw distance and angle are aligned with the deployed screen position. Camera-based launch monitors (Bushnell Launch Pro, Foresight GC3) work with any screen distance. Radar-based monitors need 8+ ft of depth from the ball to the screen for accurate indoor data.
