The Gungho Built-In Screen Kit is designed for dedicated simulator rooms where a freestanding enclosure frame isn't the right solution. ⚖️
Built-In Screen Kit vs Gungho Enclosure Kit — which is right for you? The Enclosure Kit is a freestanding frame system that includes the screen, side netting, and full containment — it's the right choice for most garage and basement builds where you want portability and don't want to mount anything to the walls. The Built-In Screen Kit is for permanent, dedicated simulator rooms where the screen mounts directly to the wall or into a custom-built frame — it's cleaner, looks more finished, and can be sized to exactly fill your wall. No freestanding poles, no side netting, wall-integrated installation.
📐
Custom sizing down to the inch — including non-standard dimensions. Standard sizes are available and ship fastest. But if your room calls for a specific width or height that doesn't match a standard size, Gungho will custom-cut the screen and foam padding to your exact measurements. Email hello@gunghogolf.com or call (512) 222-2220 with your dimensions. Custom orders ship in approximately 2–3 weeks.

Why the Built-In Screen Kit

The Right Screen for a Dedicated Simulator Room

The Built-In Screen Kit is designed for a specific type of build — one where the simulator is permanent, the room is dedicated, and the goal is a clean, finished look that holds up to years of serious use.

  • 🏛️

Wall-mounted installation — no freestanding frame cluttering the room

Freestanding enclosure frames work well for most builds, but in a dedicated simulator room with finished walls and a permanent setup, the visible frame poles and side netting can make the space feel temporary rather than purpose-built. The Built-In Kit mounts directly to the wall or into a custom-framed surround — the screen sits flush, the foam padding fills any gaps, and the room looks like it was designed as a simulator from day one. This is the setup that photographs well and feels premium every time you walk into the room.

  • 🖼

Premium woven impact screen — same material, better presentation

The Built-In Kit uses the same premium woven impact screen material as the Gungho Enclosure Kit. The screen handles real ball speeds and provides a high-quality projection surface for your simulator software. Wall-mounting the screen — rather than hanging it from a frame — creates a flatter, more consistent projection surface because the screen has no flex points at frame attachment points. The result is a more uniform image across the full screen width, which matters most on wider screens over 12 ft.

  • 🛡

Foam padding surround — protects walls, eliminates gaps, absorbs ricochets

The foam padding that surrounds the screen in the Built-In Kit serves three functions: it fills any gap between the screen edge and the wall or frame surround (preventing balls from sneaking through), it absorbs the impact of shots that catch the edge of the screen, and it protects the wall framing from damage. The foam is covered in a fabric surround that matches the screen aesthetic — it looks intentional, not improvised. This is one of the details that separates a finished permanent installation from a DIY enclosure build.

  • 📏

Custom sizing to the inch — fits your exact wall opening

Standard enclosure kits come in fixed widths (8, 10, 12, 14, 16 ft). The Built-In Screen Kit can be ordered to any dimension — if your framed wall opening is 11 ft 4 inches wide and 8 ft 6 inches tall, you can order exactly that size. This eliminates the compromise of fitting a standard screen into a custom space or building a frame surround to accommodate size differences. For rooms where the wall opening or framing is already built, exact-size ordering is the only approach that produces a truly finished result.

  • Simpler installation than a full enclosure kit

The Built-In Screen Kit has fewer components than a full enclosure kit — there's no frame to assemble, no side netting to hang, no standing structure to level. Installation involves mounting the screen to the wall or into a pre-built frame surround, attaching the foam padding, and tensioning the screen with the included bungee system. Most builders complete installation in 2–3 hours. The tradeoff is that your room needs to provide the containment that the enclosure kit's side netting would handle — wall padding or side barriers are recommended for any shots that miss the screen.

Is This Right for You?

Built for These Setups

The Built-In Screen Kit suits a specific type of build. Here's who it's the right call for:

🏠

Dedicated simulator rooms

You've built or converted a permanent simulator space with finished walls. You want the screen integrated into the room, not sitting in a portable frame.

🔨

Custom framed builds

You're framing a wall opening or building a custom surround around the screen. Exact-inch sizing means the screen fills your opening perfectly.

📸

Appearance-focused builds

You want the room to look designed — not like a garage with equipment in it. Wall-mounted with foam padding is the look that photographs like a pro installation.

🏆

Upgrading an existing setup

You already have a simulator setup and want to replace a worn or undersized screen with a permanent wall-mounted solution in the same space.

Not the right fit if: You want a portable setup you can move or disassemble — the Gungho Enclosure Kit is the better choice for garage builds where the simulator isn't permanent. Or if you need full side containment included — this kit handles the screen and padding; side barriers need to be handled by your room walls or separate padding. Check our Garage Guide if you're building in a garage.

Note: Freestanding frame, side netting, and full containment system are not included — those are part of the Gungho Enclosure Kit. The Built-In Kit assumes your room walls or a custom-built frame surround will provide the structural support and side containment.

Ordering & Lead Time

What to Expect After Ordering

1

Confirm your dimensions before ordering

Measure your wall opening or planned screen area precisely — width and height. Custom orders are cut to your specifications and cannot be resized after production begins. If you need help confirming dimensions, contact us before ordering.

2

Standard sizes ship in approximately 2–3 weeks

Custom sizes ship in approximately 2–3 weeks as well — Gungho cuts custom orders on a rolling schedule. For standard sizes, lead times may be shorter depending on stock availability.

3

Delivery and inspection

Inspect all components on arrival before signing. Note any damage immediately. Contact us with photos right away if anything is wrong — every order is fully insured.

4

Installation — 2–3 hours

Mount the screen into your wall opening or frame surround, attach the foam padding, and tension with the bungee system. Two people make the process easier — one to hold the screen in position, one to attach and tension.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The Enclosure Kit is a complete freestanding system — it includes the screen, frame, side netting, and top containment. You build the structure in your room and it stands independently. The Built-In Screen Kit is the screen and foam padding only — designed to mount permanently into a wall opening or custom-built frame surround. The Built-In is the right choice when you want a permanent, integrated installation in a dedicated room. The Enclosure Kit is the right choice for garage and basement builds where portability or full containment is a priority.
Yes — the screen needs something to mount to. The most common approaches are: mounting directly to the wall (the screen attaches to the wall framing with the included hardware), building a wooden surround frame that defines the screen opening and provides mounting points, or integrating into a custom-finished room where the screen opening is part of the room's construction. The foam padding fills any gap between the screen edge and the surround, so the opening doesn't need to be exact — just close enough for the foam to bridge.
The Built-In Screen Kit covers the screen and the immediate surround. It does not include side netting or containment for shots that miss the screen to the left or right. In a dedicated built-in installation, side containment is typically handled by the room walls themselves (if the screen extends close to each wall), by wall padding added to the side walls, or by a custom side-barrier system. This is something to plan before installation — a clean hit that catches the foam surround is fine, but a hard shank into an unprotected sidewall is a real risk in any simulator setup without side containment.
Email hello@gunghogolf.com or call Gungho at (512) 222-2220 with your exact width and height dimensions before placing your order. Standard sizes can be ordered directly through the product page. For non-standard dimensions, Gungho will confirm the size, provide pricing, and arrange the order. Custom sizes ship in approximately 2–3 weeks. Measure your wall opening twice before confirming — custom orders are cut to spec and cannot be adjusted after production begins.
Impact screen lifespan depends heavily on use — how often you practice, ball speed, and whether you use range balls (which can have scuffs and markings that accelerate screen wear). For typical home use of 3–5 sessions per week, most quality woven screens last 2–5 years before showing significant wear. Avoid hitting scuffed or marked golf balls at the screen — they cause disproportionate wear relative to normal use. When the screen does wear out, replacement screens can be ordered in the same dimensions as your original kit.
