Choose Your Size

Two Sizes — One Decision

Single-sided
4 × 5 ft
Right-handed OR left-handed play
  • Hitting strip positioned 3" from one edge — optimal launch monitor side-placement
  • Comfortable stance area for a single player setup
  • Weighs 25 lbs — portable, manageable solo
  • Ships in 2–3 days from order date
  • One orientation only — choose RH or LH at time of setup
Tee note: The Holy Grail Mat is not designed to accept standard wooden tees. Use Birtees, Carl's Hot Shot Tees, or similar rubber/flexible tee products that sit above the surface rather than piercing it. These tees work better with the turf surface and don't damage the mat over time.

Which Is Right for You?

Holy Grail Mat vs Holy Grail Strip

Holy Grail Hitting Strip ($199)
  • Strike zone only — installs into a rubber tile base or DIY platform
  • More portable and compact — easier to store in multi-use spaces
  • Lower upfront cost — pair with $80–$110 rubber tiles for a complete setup
  • Replace only the strip when worn — not the full mat system
  • Requires building or buying a standing surface separately
Holy Grail Hitting Mat (this product)
  • Complete one-piece solution — strip pre-installed, standing surface included
  • No platform building required — drop it on the floor and hit
  • GrassTex Money Putt turf matches the hitting strip material perfectly
  • 4×9 ft size handles both RH and LH players without any repositioning
  • Higher upfront cost than the strip alone
Short answer: If you want a complete, no-build solution — the mat. If you're building a permanent platform or want the most portable option for a multi-use space — the Holy Grail Hitting Strip with rubber tiles. Both use the same Holy Grail Strike surface — the difference is the standing area.

Why the Holy Grail

What Makes This Mat Different

  • 🎯

Holy Grail Hitting Strip pre-installed — the best residential strike surface available

The Holy Grail Hitting Strip is the component that took Gungho over a year of real-world testing to develop — two types of foam, special adhesives, a durable plastic base, and GrassTex Money Putt turf in the right combination. The mat delivers the same surface you'd get from buying the strip separately and dropping it into a platform, with the standing area already matched and aligned. This is the hitting surface Gungho installs in their high-end local client studios.

  • 💪

Fat shots punish distance — not your joints

The natural compression of the multi-layer strip construction gives you accurate fat shot feedback — a fat strike feels heavier and loses distance — without transmitting the impact shock that causes golfer's elbow and wrist tendinitis. Most quality mats choose between feedback and joint protection. The Holy Grail construction delivers both: the foam layers absorb impact energy while the turf pile height provides realistic contact feedback on every strike quality from pure to chunked.

  • 🟫

1-inch dense foam base — firm stance, maximised ground forces

The base foam is dense rather than soft — designed for a firm, stable stance that allows full ground force utilisation on the downswing. A squishy base under your feet undermines weight transfer and balance; the Holy Grail base is firm enough to feel like standing on a solid surface while still providing the cushioning your joints need over extended sessions. The GrassTex Money Putt turf on top matches the hitting strip surface both visually and in feel, so the transition from standing area to strike zone is seamless.

  • 📐

Water-jet cut edges — precision flush fit with 1-inch subfloor systems

If you're building a raised floor system (1-inch subfloor with 3/8-inch turf on top — the standard for permanent simulator rooms), the Holy Grail Mat's water-jet cut edges are designed to fit flush with that system. The height is calibrated so the mat surface sits level with the surrounding turf, eliminating any step or lip between the mat and the room floor. For standalone use on concrete, the included velcro anchors keep the mat locked in position without adhesives or floor modifications.

  • 🚀

Launch monitor friendly — strip positioned 3 inches from edge

The hitting strip is positioned just 3 inches from the mat edge — which means a side-mounted camera launch monitor (Bushnell Launch Pro, Foresight GC3, SkyTrak ST MAX) can sit directly on the floor next to the mat at the correct side offset without any elevated stand required. This is a deliberate design choice that makes the mat work cleanly with the most popular camera-based monitors in home simulator setups.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The 4×5 is designed for a single player — the hitting strip is positioned 3 inches from one edge, giving a comfortable stance area on one side. You choose the orientation (right-handed or left-handed) at setup. The 4×9 is double-sided — the hitting strip sits in the centre of the mat, giving a full stance area on both sides. Right-handed and left-handed players can both use it without moving or repositioning the mat. If anyone in your household plays from both sides or you want flexibility for guests, the 4×9 is the right choice.
No — the Holy Grail Mat uses GrassTex Money Putt turf which is not designed to accept standard wooden tees. Pushing wooden tees through the turf surface damages it permanently. Instead, use Birtees (rubber flexible tees that sit above the turf surface) or Carl's Hot Shot Tees. These products are widely available and work cleanly with the Holy Grail surface at any tee height from driver down to iron. Using the right tee type is important for both mat longevity and consistent tee height accuracy.
The 4×4 velcro anchors are designed to work on concrete, wood, and low-nap carpet surfaces. On hard floors the velcro creates a strong bond. On low-pile carpet the anchors grip the carpet fibres and prevent the mat from sliding. Deep-pile or shag carpet may not provide enough grip for the velcro — if your carpet is particularly thick, place a piece of plywood under the mat area to create a firm, flat base. The mat should not move during any swing, including driver. If you feel any movement, add the plywood base.
Yes — this is a deliberate design feature. The hitting strip is positioned 3 inches from the mat edge specifically so camera-based launch monitors (GC3, Bushnell Launch Pro, SkyTrak) can sit directly on the floor at the correct side offset from the ball without any elevated stand required. The monitor sits on the floor next to the mat at ball height. This eliminates the need for a separate monitor stand in most home setups and keeps the monitor at the correct camera angle for the striking position.
Get the mat if you want a complete, no-build solution — drop it on the floor and start hitting, no platform construction required. The 4×9 mat also solves the left/right-handed sharing problem permanently. Get the hitting strip if you're building a permanent DIY platform (wooden or rubber tile), want the most portable option for a multi-use space, or want the most affordable path to the Holy Grail surface. Both use exactly the same Holy Grail Strike construction. The difference is the standing area and whether you build the platform yourself.
